static evolution

I'm always amazed at our capacity to tolerate pain and suffering. Lately, I'm amazed at certain people's ability to create that reality in another human life. I think many times it boils down to ignorance, a lack of perspective, and a lack of compassion. I am aware that some thrive from creating pain and suffering. Some even believe it's the right thing to do, especially in cases of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Many people thought it was okay to kidnap people from another continent, enslave them, treat them like animals, ruin families, and building an entire nation on free labor. Some thought it was okay to pay money for the actual heads of Native Americans. Yes, that was the past. But, we still continue to commit ridiculous acts of violence. I wonder if we'll ever truly evolve. Yes, we've made strides in technology, medicine, and education. But, since the beginning of time we've been struggling with the same thing- A lack of respect and compassion for another human life. We continue to enslave, discriminate, and mistreat people who we think are different. We continue with ethic cleansing and genocide. We fail to realize we're all the same with a few genetic modifications that change the pigment in our skin. Yes, we are born into different tribes, races, or places on this planet. But somehow, we allow these small factors to create massive pain and suffering.

I often imagine what things would be like if we all truly respected the lives of others and practiced compassion. This simple act would improve or even save the lives of millions on this planet. People would eat. People would thrive. People would live. We're connected. We're the same. I know that wishes of a worldwide utopian existence are a big stretch. But, we have so much room for growth and so many possibilities.
